As part of Connect Hackney’s (CVS) “Ageing Better Programme”, we carried out surveys within our project called “Happy Living Project”. This programme’s aim was to reduce isolation and improve well-being of people aged 50 and over by preventing loneliness and isolation. The project we delivered through Connect Hackney was part of a nationwide research programme of work funded by The National Lottery Community Fund and is running in 14 locations across England. Amongst 25 other projects, Turkish Cypriot Cultural Association was the only delivery partner for the Turkish speaking community worked with Turkish speaking community.
Within the Happy Living Project, we worked with Turkish community living in Hackney to reduce isolation for over 50s.
CMF Surveys were translated into Turkish. We facilitated the collection of surveys by asking participants to fill out a survey and help those who couldn’t fill it by themselves. We collected 68 surveys and sent for analysis.
The collected data were sent to Connect Hackney and then surveys evaluated by an independent research company – Ecorys (with Brunel University London and Bryson Purdon Social Research of the overall Ageing Better programme). The University of East London carried out the local evaluation.
In addition to collecting surveys, we offered services and activities such as regular tea club at our centre, coach trips, going out to restaurants, cafes to reduce social isolation and loneliness.
